Right now, many members of our community have lost their income and are struggling to pay their rent. While there is a moratorium on evictions, kicking payments down the road and pushing tenants into debt is not the answer.
We need direct financial aid for tenants in Ontario.
I am calling for the Province of Ontario to immediate take the following steps.
- Ban evictions, disconnections and threats of evictions or disconnections - including businesses
- 80% rent subsidy up to $2500 per month for households that have lost their income due to the COVID-19 pandemic - paid out for four months
- These payments should also be made available for small to medium sized businesses
- Six-month freeze on rent increases
